What President Obama Said
By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President
Last night (Feb. 24th) President Obama went before a joint assembly of the U.S. House and Senate to present a major speech. It goes without saying that he was also presenting his ideas to the American people too.
The speech was barely over when I saw an on-line survey, asking me whether I thought that the President’s speech spoke to the things that I thought as important. I really didn’t know how to answer that question. Partly because the speech covered lots of things and quickly digesting what was said didn’t seem to be that possible.
President Obama is a great orator and understanding what he is saying sometimes gets scrambled up in how he’s saying it.
Watching U.S. Congressman and U.S. Senators jump up in excited applause over every-other utterance also didn’t make figuring out what got said any easier either.
All-in-all it was great theater and probably what it was supposed to be.
Fortunately, we’ve been able to locate a link (probably one of many that are out there) with the actual text of the speech. Giving it a read by going to this place will help us all come to better understand what was actually said.
I’ve made a point of copying the written speech and saving it as a file to sort through and give more careful consideration. Perhaps this is something we should all do in trying to better understand the meaning of where (and to a certain degree How) our President intends to lead us.
From a quick read of what the speech said, there may be some details on which we’re going to need more clarification.
