Proposed Legislation To Change Truck Weighing A Great Idea

By:  Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President

SB 199 has just been introduced into the Nevada Legislature, offered by Senator Mike McGinness of Fallon, NV.  The bill seeks to fix a problem that has been called to our attention on more than one occasion when a farmer needed to register their farm truck and had to get the vehicle weighed in order to accomplish this objective.  No matter how close a certified scale might be, certified by the State of Nevada’s “Sealer of Weights and Measures” – the law requires that you drive to a public weighmaster and use their certified scale for the purpose of having documented “official” weight ticket for the registration.

SB 199, if passed, would allow for the weight on the farm vehicle to be determined on a certified scale, saving many Nevada farmers and ranchers a whole lot of miles and trouble, finding and then going to a public weighmaster.

Hopefully, the common sense of this legislative proposal will carry the day when the Senate Energy, Infrastructure and Transportation Committee takes it up for consideration.

As A Special Alert Update, We've Been Alerted That SB 199 Is Scheduled To Be Heard In The Senate Energy, Infrastructure and Transportation Committee on Tuesday, March 17th at 8:00 a.m.  (please check for more official notification at the Nevada Legislative Website  to make certain of the posted schedule)
