Race For 2010 And Governor’s Chair Underway
By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President
In the fashion that President Obama got an early start for the job he eventually won, others in Nevada are considering that approach to be worthy of imitation. As reported by Anjeanette Damon in her blog for the Reno Gazette Journal former Nevada Senator Joe Heck has announced that he will make a bid to replace his fellow Republican and current Governor Jim Gibbons.
Reports are that Heck, who lost his bid for re-election to the Nevada Senate by a very narrow margin during the 2009 election, has been making the rounds throughout Nevada, seeking to build support for his candidacy.
North Las Vegas Mayor, Mike Montandon (also a Republican) has indicated that he will run for Governor as well.
Although not formerly announced, significant speculation is that Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley will possibly make a run for the Governor’s office in the upcoming election.
Clark County Commissioner, Rory Reid is also considered to be a possible candidate from the Democratic side of the political spectrum.
The one advantage for attention turning so early to the Governor’s election process for 2010 is that there is plenty of opportunities for those who wish to get involved in respective campaigns and do the things to get their candidates elected. Engaging directly with candidates or those who would likely be interested in making a run will also help in figuring out their vision for what they’d like Nevada to become.
Getting this focus and orientation will go along way in getting us through the current challenges and worries.
