Getting To Know The People Who Grow Your Food
By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President
A major theme of the Nevada Agriculture In The Classroom program is teaching students to know where their food comes from. We invite and encourage you to take a look here to learn more about the details of this program.
Along the same lines, another project is helping to introduce farmers and ranchers to the people who are interested in learning about those involved in production agriculture. To see first-hand, we invite you to take a look for yourself, possibly book marking the connection and going back to meet a variety of producers.
Putting yourself out there is not a natural part of the mind-set of most farmers and ranchers, but those who volunteer to promote their enterprises serve a valuable service in helping non-farmers/ranchers to gain a better understanding of what is done, possibly how its done, but even more importantly – why things get done the way they are.
Consumers have made it clear that they believe it is important to have this type of information and are also interested in building relationships directly with local producers.
Better two-way communications will go a long way in avoiding long-term problems of the general public not having the understanding that they need.
