Tweeting For More Responsible Government
By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President
Since January of this year I’ve been “reading” a book entitled “Barack Inc.” about the ways our President got himself elected. Actually “reading” means I’ve been having the book read to me, using my MP3 player and listening to an unabridged audio book recording. I’m on my fourth or fifth time through the book…I sorta lost track.
The authors of the book suggests that among the reasons for Mr. Obama being elected our President (besides being so darn Cool) is that he revolutionized the use of social networking to build a grassroots army of supporters. While Mr. Gore might have been responsible for creating the Internet – it was President Obama who figured out how to utilize the technology to distribute his campaign message of “Change” all the way to the White House.
Admittedly I’m not a person who uses Twitter, but I do participate in Facebook and have seen first-hand the dynamics of getting in touch with others and staying in touch with others through the use of this social networking media. As you can see, Mr. Obama and “Barack Inc.” also played a very big inspirational role in getting me involved in blogging – sharing these ideas for others to interact with.
Looking ahead to the upcoming election, now that we have a better understanding of the “Change” we’ve gotten, we too can use the Internet and social networking systems to “Fix The Change We Got Last Time”. Electing those who believe in responsible levels of government (locally, statewide and especially on a national level) and un-electing those who have been responsible for the mess we’ve gotten into (such as the current U.S. Senate Majority Leader) can be accomplished with the use of grassroots networking and the tools of social networking.
We can all remember the bumper-stickers that were proudly displayed by the members of the National Rifle Association, “I’m a gun owner and I vote.” We need to get our own promotional buttons and bumper stickers prepared for election 2010 – “I Tweet For Less Big Brother!”

Right on Doug!
Obama is the first candidate to make full use of electronic media to get elected....and I'm sure he had all the advice and backing of the TV personality Ophra!
He was a totally 'scripted' candidate down to his image of rolled up sleeves while wearing a tie.
Don't you doubt for a minute everything was coached and tested by the Hollywood types for maximum impact to the electronic generation who don't read books or know how to independently think!
