Will Input Mean Anything?
By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President
Going into the “road show” that the United States Department of Agriculture has been on for the past month or so, the purpose was to “listen” their way into finding something other than a voluntary approach for the National Animal Identification System (NAIS). As they may be finding out, “voluntary” is exactly the course they should be selecting.
In light of the current zeal of those in charge of governmental activities to command and control every aspect of what happens across the country, it will be interesting to follow the next steps of Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack will take.
There doesn’t seem to be any confusion with agricultural producers over wanting the NAIS to use a voluntary approach. Yet it seems those in government don’t believe that voluntary should be an option for anything, including NAIS.
Watch and listen, what we see and what we hear will be well worth knowing.
