Unloading The Tax Cannon Pointed At Nevada’s Wallets

By:  Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President

The Las Vegas Review Journal today (June 13th) correctly applauded Governor Gibbons for his veto of the funding legislation to use a tax research project to stack the deck in favor of more increased taxes in the 2011 Nevada Legislative Session.  Earlier this week I read another news story that legislators had commented that they were going to pay for the study anyway, using some other funds they had laying around.  (Which makes you wonder how responsible their spending plans are that they don’t actually need to use the money that they passed in the first place….)

It is very easy to see that the tax bill writers of the Democratic leadership want to get a head-start on the legislation they hope will serve as the gravy train to spending more.  Hopefully taxpayers will eventually get the message that this “broad-based” tax grail that the Democratic leaders keep chasing (along with their puppet masters in the educational unions and bureaucracies – K-Higher Ed.) is all about draining the pockets of the private sector to cover the no-end-in-sight spenders.

While we probably should expect the next ballot to include a question for voters to approve for taxing corporate revenues – it should also be a consideration on our part to launch a “take-back-the-budget” initiative, aimed at the true heart of the government expander’s agenda.  Let’s think about asking Nevada voters to approve of a sensible and responsible approach to spending state government funds, limiting the scope and yanking back on the reins of run-away budgeters.
