Western States Governor’s Association May Have Been Duped Into Financing Climate Change Tax Bill

By:  Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President

Did Western state taxpayer dollars get routed into paying for the drafting of the climate change tax bill, which was mostly written by California environmental activists?  That the question that the National Taxpayers Union are seeking answers to in their letter to Western Governors.

There has been a core group of Western Governors (California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Montana) who have been working under the umbrella of the Western Climate Initiative (WCI).  According to information that the National Taxpayers Union has obtained, the Western Governors Association aligned itself with the work of the Western Climate Initiative and was involved in a support role.

Although non-participating Western Governors in the Western Climate Initiative (including Nevada) decided to not go along with the work of coming up with a Western region carbon “cap and trade” program – given the heavy involvement of Western Governors Association staff involvement, perhaps supporting dollars got mixed into the payments for the project.

As the public debate unfolds on the proposed legislation before Congress to stick it to taxpayers for energy use – all in the name of saving our planet from a melt-down, that’s not happening…we’re seeing the puppet-masters behind the scenes being exposed for their handiwork.

We look forward to the National Taxpayers Union finding out more on whether the Western Governors Association stepped over any lines in picking up the tab for the Climate Change Tax Bill.
