Maybe Somebody In Washington, D.C. Is Listening…And Hearing
By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President
One the more frustrating activities of being an involved citizen is to send a letter to your elected representative, giving your input and laying it out there – what you’d like to see happen. Then, a couple of weeks later the mailman brings you a response from that elected official with the form response – “Thank you for sharing your input, I will keep this in mind as I continue to work on this important issue.”
After going through that routine a couple of times and watching the person who you elected, vote exactly the opposite of what you suggested – oh yeah, you’re pretty sure that this representative form of government works real well!
Having ventured into the Washington, D.C. beltway a few times, for nothing more than a week-at-a-time interaction, I can say that those who live and work within the beltway do not see the world that we live in – as we see the world that we live in. To a certain extent, the same can be said for those who work and spend day-after-day in the State Legislative Building in Carson City…
Because of this experience it is good to read someone who operates in the Washington, D.C. beltway who might actually be hearing at least some of what is surfacing from those of us who live in the real world. I recommend your review of this piece by Dan Balz of the Washington Post
While I don’t completely agree with Mr. Balz in every detail of his observation, it’s good to learn that maybe somebody is picking up on the real concerns of people who aren’t interested in “drinking the Kool-Aide”.
