Can Someone Explain Where All These Jobs Are Going To Be

By:  Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President

We have been hearing for some time about how Nevada is going to lead the world and become the Mecca of all green energy.  We have the sun, we’ve got the Bureau of Land Management with their commitment to develop public lands for alternative energy and we’ve got the political horsepower to force through a legislative mandate that can bring anyone relying on carbon based energy to their knees.

As we see here, the game plan is being crafted to turn the employment numbers around and get a whole bunch of folks back drawing a paycheck again.

From the research that’s been reported on here before, the one unfortunate factor (at least from the country which has done what our country is trying to do) is that government imposed green energy development ends up costing jobs – not creating them.

There’s an influx of construction workers in the development phase of a project, but once it’s built a couple of guys and their pickup take care of the operation from there.

The chilling account from the research done from Spain’s experience is the U.S. should expect a loss of at least 2.2 jobs on average, or about 9 jobs lost for every 4 created.

We’re all supposed to get so caught up in the green glow and warm and fuzzy about ecologically-sound energy that we don’t worry about the details that everybody’s power bill has to go up significantly to pay for energy that we wouldn’t be buying if it weren’t for the government forcing us to purchase the  power that’s less expensive.

Please share, if you are aware of research or another source of information that can detail where the jobs are going to come from as Nevada cashes in on the green opportunities before us (who will be hiring, for what types of jobs and how long of an employment period will these folks be working).  It would also be nice to hear about the specifics of where the alternative energy markets are that the power harvested in Nevada will go as well as how the energy is going to get there.

Perhaps it wouldn’t be too unbiased if the analysis could also cover the likely impact of increased energy costs on businesses now using less expensive, non-alternative energy.  How many jobs will be lost from the extra burden of being politically correct?

If what Spain has experienced is not what we can expect – please share what’s going to be different to make this work out better…
