More Government, More Government, More Government
By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President
We know that the U.S. Senate is working on several critical pieces of legislation not the least of which is an attempt to change what some thought the U.S. Supreme Court got wrong. As pointed out in American Farm Bureau Federation President Bob Stallman’s opinion piece
Never mind what would be a right of a state to govern and manage their water resources, S. 787 would put the Environmental Protection Agency even in more charge than they are already. It was their reach for control over all waters of the U.S. that got the situation to the Supreme Court in the first place. Being sent back to the boundaries of “navigable waters” has not been something that Big Brother government has taken kindly to – which is why the U.S. Senate, controlled by those who favor more government for whatever the situation might be, would like to pass S. 787 to get back authority that they shouldn’t have.
Contacts with our members of the Senate should include reminders that Nevada is best equipped to deal with our limited water resources. We have a system that has served us and our needs far better than what expanded federal controls can provide. here, the game plan that the U.S. Senate could launch is a grab for control over every drop of water there is.
