U.S. Senators Go To Work On Climate Change Legislation

By:  Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President

From various information outlets, including this New York Times article, we continue to read the massive organizational push being put forth by the U.S. Senate to move forward on the economy-destroying measure known as Cap & Trade.  While we expect our one U.S. Senator, marshaling his majority party into compliance to support this ill-conceived proposal, we also take some relief in this projected nose-count that Senator Ensign is considered to be a “No” vote for passage.  Given this outlook, the real key will be in those states where voters who understand the disastrous consequences of this legislative boondoggle getting through to their elected  representatives to convince them that voting “No” is the correct vote.

In scanning around other news sources on the topic it’s interesting to read the perspectives of those who worry that all the required compromises to get the bill passed might make the outcome a mute point.  Unless there is significant pain, suffering and economic havoc wreaked – the bill just won’t work to accomplish the fraction of degree improvements we’re expected to achieve.

We also seen a report or two on how television watchers in some Congressional districts will soon be able to watch to proactive, cover spots that are intended to convince voters that their representatives did the correct thing when they voted in the House action to support passage.  Our fellow Nevada citizens in the 1st and 3rd districts, represented by Congresswoman Berkley and Congresswoman Titus might get to see these “Thank You” advertisements, hopefully inspiring the viewers to recognize the need to vote for somebody else in 2010.

As the Senate process continues to unfold to meet the Senator Reid timetable for voting on the bill by September 18th, we hope that in spite of the predictable outcome of Senator Reid voting for the measure and granting the wish of President Obama to have this additional nail in our free enterprise economy – enough real voter heat can be generated on the issue to draw attention to the consequences that will come for a “Yes” vote on the Senate floor.  We encourage Nevada voters to take advantage of this link to send Senator Reid an e-mail.
