The Boy Who Cried Wolf
By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President
Last night our President again went before the American people with his continuing sales job of why we should go along with his quest to expand the federal government’s control over another area of our lives and accept the socialistic approach he and those of his majority party believe warranted. As outlined in this account of his message we’re supposed to just accept the information he presents that having the federal government take charge will reduce the costs associated with health care and prevent our economy from further destruction. More federal spending is “eventually” going to save us and keep us from being pillaged by greedy insurance companies, making record profits at our expense.
I also heard the President throw out the figure of how many people were losing their health care insurance on a daily basis.
We’ve heard our President use big numbers before to try and convince us that unless the actions that he considered essential were pursued in haste, we would be in dire shape. Congress then proceeded to stampede themselves into action – without actually even reading what they were voting on – and so far the results have been worse than what we were told the action was supposed to prevent.
It is extremely likely that some of the people who are included in the number of American’s daily losing their health insurance protection are doing so because they are becoming unemployed because of the worsening economy that Obama and his Congressional henchpersons are destroying.
I also think it would be worthwhile to see some independent (as in somebody other than a federal agency) verification present information on how much “greedy” insurance companies are making.
I understand the reason for the President to exhort to this spear in his arsenal of class warfare and I understand that it plays well to suit his purpose whether it’s actually true or not.
If it might sound like I’m not near the Obama Kool-Aid stand, you’ve pegged me correctly. As the moral of the story of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” teaches us – when you’ve not been shown to be truthful in the past…you might have trouble getting people to believe you on a going forward basis.
I also don’t accept his agenda of more government always be “the solution” and I find distasteful the tactic being used that everything is another crisis in need of “the solution.”
Health care can and should be addressed with meaningful reform.
In spite of philosophy that seems to be dominant, I don’t believe that expanding federal government control is the solution. Instead I think that expansion of real markets through private sector actions would better serve the purpose. If Congress should do anything, they should use their authority to rewrite tax law to provide a tax deduction for the amount of money spent by individual insurance purchasing citizens.
