Government Will Take Care Of Us – Or So We’ve Been Told
By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President
Those who have voted for the expansion of government’s reach seek to convince us of their wonderful deeds (see here Senator Reid’s guest column in the Las Vegas Sun). The message of “look how we’ve saved you” is supposed to override the reality of gosh, things aren’t really all that great.
We are supposed to keep looking for something positive in the pile of horse manure and we might find a pony (which we’ll be mandated to feed and take care of for the rest of our lives).
The elements of this piece:
These points will be repeated on a regular basis as we go forward, deeper into operation Re-election.
Any economic uptick that might happen will be evidence of how great our government is to be doing the wonderful things being done – continued languish will be blamed on Bush and greedy whoever’s designated for vilification.

The elements of this piece:
(1) we – as in the Democratically-controlled U.S. House and Senate -- were given a mandate to do all this good stuff (after all we’ve got the votes to pass anything we want, although a few Republican votes would be handy to give us some “bi-partisan” cover);
(2) its government spending that will turn our economy around (please don’t miss the amount of bacon brought home to our state);
(3) look what we’ve accomplished by putting a few people to work with the money that’s been spent (please don’t pay any attention to the unemployment rate which is going up because of the jobs we’re killing by our irresponsible and unsustainable spending);
(4) those of us who believe in government taking care of people care more than those who believe that people can best take care of themselves when government isn’t doing the care taking (everyone knows it is government’s purpose to take from those who have and give to everyone else, creating more who don’t have…and more who need to be taken care of);
(5) and, for good measure – yes, we are paying attention to taxpayer dollars (even as we’ve spent those dollars like the next generations won’t mind the tax burdens they’ve got to shoulder to cover the excess).
These points will be repeated on a regular basis as we go forward, deeper into operation Re-election.
Any economic uptick that might happen will be evidence of how great our government is to be doing the wonderful things being done – continued languish will be blamed on Bush and greedy whoever’s designated for vilification.
