More Evidence Of The Downside Of Federal Cap-and-Tax Legislation
By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President
Those who support the federal government increasing control and taxes in order to direct us down the path of higher energy prices as a way of discouraging carbon emissions want us to believe that going green only has an up-side. More and more though there is also information and analysis that is being presented which focus in on the true costs and impacts that will be realized if the U.S. Senate follows through with the possible adoption of the Cap-and-Tax program, narrowly passed by the U.S. House.
Here is another report which indicates the consequences of going forward with the Big Brother solution as embodied in the Waxman-Markey legislative proposal.
As we have highlighted in some of our past observations, this piece identifies that those who eat will also be impacted because of the proposal. (And that's on top of all the other increased costs consumers will be paying.)
In spite of our increasing frustration over the ever-expanding obsession of big government advocates to gain control of each aspect of our daily lives, we don’t believe that developing or using alternative energy is a bad thing. We support this development and advancement.
We don’t believe though that building an alternative energy program requires taxing and destroying our current economic engine as the method to accomplish the objective of becoming more energy self-sufficient. We also don’t believe that expanding government control and mandates are necessary either. If government wishes to provide incentives and proactive measures to assist in getting the alternative methods off the ground – fine, but at some point government manipulation needs to step aside in order for market forces to advance alternatives that can be justified because they actually make sense in the arena of economic reality.
