So Shall It Be Written – So Shall It Be Done!
By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President
One of the most memorable lines from the 10 Commandment movie was the one that when the Pharaoh commanded something, the comment was made “So Shall It Be Written – So Shall It Be Done”. Back in those days the ruler of the land had some real power. When he said to build a pyramid -- pyramids got built. When he said “I want 35 miles per gallon…” (oh wait that wasn’t the Pharaoh who said that it was somebody who thinks he has even more power).
Now there’s probably nothing wrong with suggesting that automobile companies should try a little harder to go farther on a tank of gas (but, shouldn’t that be the marketplace that sends that signal – as opposed to a President commanding it)? Then again until President Obama came along our Presidents didn’t think that our federal government should own a auto-manufacturing company…or say which executive should run the operation.
We live in pretty interesting times with our federal government believing that they should have as much authority as they think they should have. It will be good for us in November of 2010 to have a field of new representatives (at the state and national level) who get elected on the premise – “Let my people go!”
