United Nations Appeal On Feeding A Hungry World
By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President
The world is filled with many hungry people. As we read in this Las Vegas Sun editorial, the United Nations estimates that more than a Billion people don’t have enough to eat.
Those who grow food and produce fiber for a living see this information and wonder why they have to contend with government efforts to close down production. One of our United States Senators believes necessary irrigation water should be redirected to a lake where it evaporates. Government agencies of various alphabetic initials seem to lay awake at night, dreaming up additional restrictions they can impose to thwart agricultural operations, limiting output of needed food and fiber for the hungry world.
As we read from the Las Vegas Sun editorial though, the folks at the United Nations aren’t looking for food to feed hungry people -- they are looking for cash. Lots of it. Even on an international scale the solution appears to be government and greater levels of government spending.
Then again if that were the actual solution and if the United Nations were capable of turning cash into food there wouldn’t be more than a Billion hungry people. In the words of the past -- "Let them eat cash!"
