Socialism – The Siren’s Call Of Government’s Care

By:  Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President

The Government will take care of you – it is why we have Government…to take care of our every need.  Witness the promotion of this idea in this Las Vegas Sun editorial heralding the wonderful graciousness of our state’s senior U.S. Senator in marshalling through the federal government’s takeover of our health care system.

As we read in this account from the Reno Gazette Journal there are so many good reasons for us to embrace the warmth of government’s care…
“In Nevada, the reform efforts would help provide coverage for 518,000 uninsured residents, provide tax credits for 311,000 to help with premium costs and bring down the estimated $335 million bill for uncompensated care in the state, according to the Health and Human Services Department report.”

How Can The Federal Government Deliver Such Wonderful Results?

Through the miracle of redistribution and forced participation our benevolent leaders can provide to the level of our need from the extent of the capability for those to provide.  Robin Hood and Karl Marx would both be as impressed as those who promote the virtues of this 2,000 page, $848 Billion, magnificent health care extravaganza.

Thanks to the Heritage Foundation we have this analysis of the details relating to that hand reaching deeper into our (and future generation’s) taxpaying wallets.  Of course this is only one of the purposes for the extractions we will enjoy beyond any foreseeable future.  The Party has been busy at the national and state level building their tax devouring machinery.

In his book Saving Freedom U.S. Senator Jim DeMint describes the Siren’s call of socialism.
Helping us to understand the perils of this stampede to ransom our freedom in the name of security from want (the Government will provide), Senator DeMint uses the metaphor of Homer’s Odyssey and the tale of the Siren’s call, luring sailors to their doom.

DeMint accurately implores us that it is our responsibility as citizens, using the tools at our disposal to turn the tide of our elected leaders’ pursuit of expanding socialism.  “It is not the federal government’s responsibility to run our lives,” he writes, “it is our responsibility to run the federal government.”

That same principle applies to state and local governments as well.  In spite of the setbacks we might encounter in the short-term of the legislative process, dictated by the mandates and machinations of the Party -- November of 2010 must be our focus of organizing, mobilizing and restoring government of responsible limitations.
