Pondering Copenhagen
By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President
The radio commercials use children imploring the world to sign up for saving the planet and encourage listeners to go to a Website to sign a petition that promotes world leaders to sign the global accord. Hype, in the current typical fashion when political correctness is front and center, will be great. Media coverage for the December Denmark get together will be incredible.
In the zeal of Copenhagen’s international climate talk there will be a number details probably not given much attention. On the serious side, the Heritage Foundation rightly draws attention to the consequences for America’s sovereignty by signing on the dotted line – but then those who advocate resolve regarding the theory of global warming tend to anxiously look forward to the decline of the United States.
It would also be interesting to have the carbon footprint people doing some calculating over how many polar bears are going to be caused to sweat by virtue of the jet fuel and other energy outlays for the Copenhagen discussions to be held. In his classic “do as I say – not as I do” approach, President Obama’s publicity grab for attention -- attending the function will possibly melt a foot or two off a glacier by itself.
With global warming we see the change in the process of science, evolving to a system where majority rule, questionable models and political response are more legitimate than facts. What are the long-term ramifications for that change?
