The Best Way To Get People Back To Work Would Be For Government To Stop Trying To Save Jobs
By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President
Yesterday there was great joy in the land -- sort of. Our national unemployment figures had improved with only 10 percent of the population unemployed – instead of 10.2 percent. We also saw that instead of businesses laying off one number of employees (as the “experts” thought they would) – they laid off less! Yes, this move to socialism is working very well…so well in fact that we’ve got plans in the works to do it some more.
The news from Washington, D.C. suggest that when the banks get around to paying the taxpayers back for the bailouts that our elected leaders gave to them – at least the dollars that anybody can actually account for – the Obama administration is considering going along with the ideas taking shape in the U.S. House to spend some more money so more jobs can be “saved or created”. That whole thing of “saving or creating jobs” is really working out, except for the unemployment problems.
This account byThe Heritage Foundation identifies some of the reality that you’re not going to get from flyers from candidates who are trying to convince you to re-elect them because of their good work of putting unemployed people to work – or saving the jobs for those who might still be drawing a paycheck. Interestingly, it seems that when a business or company is struggling to survive – government taxation increases have a negative impact on the company’s ability to generate a profit and continue to pay employees. Nevada’s Legislature didn’t think that was the case when they decided to increase taxes on the amount of payroll that companies pay. For some reason (probably Bush’s fault) our state’s unemployment is next to the worst in the nation – go figure that one?
The reports that have been released for the first quarter of collection of the increased tax levy indicate that for some reason it isn’t performing as well as the projections suggested they would -- $15 million behind schedule…probably should have raised it even more. After all, the well being of the government is far more important than the well being of the people and business enterprises who actually make our economy work.
I’m sure it didn’t come up at President Obama’s “Job’s Summit” -- but the best thing that could be done to help our nation would be to stop “helping”. and for Nevada legislators – could you please take your tax-grabbing hands out of the pockets of those who are trying to make their businesses work…
