We’re Just Not Hearing It Right

By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President

It has now been explained.  The problem isn’t a case of bad government policy being rammed into us by a government that knows what’s good for us – as we can now understand the problem is that we’re just not hearing it right.

Those things that will force us to participate in the health care payment redistribution system and the other elements of the agenda of government being the source of all that we require are the things that we would be willing to go along with, if only the right understanding is reached.

As a side note on the health care payment redistribution system – it really shouldn’t be considered as reform of health insurance.  Yes, health insurance companies are involved in the process that U.S. Democratic Senators have approved for us.  However, it’s not really insurance – it’s a payment system to cover the costs of health care, using everyone else's money.

Insurance is something that involves risk management and is a product sold on a voluntary basis with both parties involved acting in their best interest.  The purchaser is able to decide whether to buy or not and the seller is able to decide to sell or not with risk and prices evaluated on whether the purchase/sale is mutually beneficial.

The Senate program involves a requirement that all health care services be paid for by the involved health payment companies.  All required participants either pay the health payment companies or the U.S. government to cover the costs necessary to operate the program (there is no choice involved in making the required payments).  In addition to the pay-up-or-else system, additional taxes and centrally-controlled costs containment will be required.

Further government control will probably eventually have to mushroom out to force health care services to provide their benefits at established rates.  The reality of government controlled anything is that no matter how much planning and control is exercised more is always required.  Beginning points with regard to government programs are never the end location.  Any unsuccessful government venture always translates into requiring more funding and extending more control.  Evaluation on whether something actually should be a government activity is not an option – bigger hammers swung with more vigor will always be the selected application of inserting square pegs into round holes.

Which brings us full-circle to the points coming from the White House on the solution being – restructuring the message and don’t hesitate in continuing forward.

Ideally, after November of 2010, they will be given the chance to re-evaluate again with even few of their foot-soldiers in the legislative arena carrying forward their agenda of bigger government, higher taxes and less freedom for citizens.
