It’s The Economy

By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President

Perhaps this perspective might be too obvious, but in as simple of terms as possible – having a healthy economy is better than what we’ve got now.  Getting a healthy economy will not be achieved with Billion dollar tax increases, unimaginable federal spending or an army of czars micro-managing the socially-acceptable outcomes that politicians deem necessary.

Healthy economies are built with private sector initiative and a reward system where that hard work pays off in something other than a higher tax bill.  If this wasn’t the case – we’d have a healthy economy now, given the Billion dollar tax increases, unimaginable federal spending and the army of micro-managing czars and bureaucrats…

As we have learned from first-hand historic experience and found documented in the work of Nobel award winning economist Friedrich Hayek, centrally-planned, socialistic economic systems have always failed and cannot succeed.   It should be clearly understood that in spite of what we are supposed to believe, just because their motivation may be a more caring approach, the current ruling party’s intent to initiate a all-dominating, government-controlled systems will only result in worse outcomes and further loss of freedom.

Policies need to be oriented to provide for the greatest degree of opportunity for advancement of the private sector’s ability to benefit from market signals, unfettered by distortions of imposed governmentally-engineered results.  Capitalism, embracing the benefits of both accomplishment and failure, must be recognized as the preferred course for our nation’s and state’s pursuit.  We must not mistake the advantages of equal opportunity for the misguided goal of seeking government-designed equal outcomes.

This agenda of equal results should be accurately identified for its true intent.  The purpose is implementing actions which take from those with the perceived ability to give -- in order for others to receive according to their needs.  This Marxist’s mantra sounds very noble and socially-justifiable until you come to realize that achieving the desired ends can only be achieved through forced compliance by an ever-expanding, unaccountable authority.

Instead of promoting the collective interests of the whole, at the expense of the rights of the individual, we need to put emphasis on adhering to the limited constraints of government authority fitting within the principles of the Constitution.  We need to demand a reduction in government’s role and express this expectation through the election process.  Those who represent us need to hear clearly…and see demonstrated by those who are selected to serve…that we will no longer tolerate their expansion of the role, cost, size and scope of government.
