More, Bigger Government Plans Being Planned

By:  Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President

Throughout the week there has been a steady drip of news coming from Washington, D.C. regarding the behind closed door meetings our U.S. Senator, Harry Reid has been having with his key committee chairmen, preparing for the next assault on the American public.  Having finished up with the health care payment legislation, geared to save us all from having to worry about health care (except for wondering how we’ll be able to live with the further expansion of government control and the increased tax burdens that are included in the package) – attention can now turn to the next frontier…further wreaking the economy with an energy bill to increase government’s intrusion more and increase taxes to even greater levels.

Those in power don’t see any limits on what they can do in order to inflict more and greater government on us…for our own good of course.  The process of determining how this can be accomplished is not carried out in public forums, with give and take exchanges, it’s decided behind closed doors, huddling with the key advisors for the President and members of the party in control – plotting the best game plan to ram-and-jam.

Once out from behind the closed doors the “debate” is structured in such a way to set those who don’t agree to be villains…the “Party of NO” since they won’t sign on and join the effort in a bi-partisan fashion.  The American people, so we’re told, have demanded that government take over every aspect of their lives…tax them (especially those who have the resources to contribute) and give us the Utopia place where we all have the same and we all are without want, except for want of even more government largess to satisfy our desires.

The same attitude of what government can and should be is also formulating its plans at the state level.  Going forward we will be exposed to even greater insights on how deficient our state tax structure is, incapable of providing the majority party with the revenue to expand state spending or provide for the public sector’s upkeep.  Since we shouldn’t expect regular citizens to pay the tab (at least in a direct fashion) for this expansion, there ought to be a system of blaming business interests for not paying their fair share and then dragging them forward (to “the table”) and extracting higher levels taxes from their checkbooks.

The plans for greater government, more programs, larger handouts to the needy, more rigorous regulation and control…it’s all in the vision that some have for our immediate future.  All we have to do is keep electing who we’ve been electing and we’ll keep getting the more they can’t seem to give us enough of.

So much for freedom…so much for opportunity – who needs any of that when you have Big Brother so capable of providing all that’s needed?  So what if it requires taking all you might have so others can be provided for – it’s the “change” we’re supposed to have longed for…and now we’ll have.
