You’re Welcome Nevada, I’ve Finished My Assignment

By:  Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President

As we have been learning the purpose of citizens is to provide for their government.  It is our duty and responsibility to ensure that our government is provided for, lest they not have the financial ability to do all the wonderful things that government does.  As required by the U.S. Constitution and also strongly encouraged by a massive advertising campaign – I filled out the 2010 U.S. Census Form (form D-1, officially released as the form to use on 12-5-2008).  I also pledge that I will mail said form in for tabulation in order for Nevada and all other levels of government who I serve to get their fair share of federal handouts.

Historically, the purpose of a census was to count and keep track of how many citizens there were in a country…bureaucrats going back to almost the beginning of time have felt that this was an important thing to do.  From what I recall of Bible stories, the Romans also required their citizens to be counted (around Christmas time, according to those accounts).

Although I’ve not seen the modern explanation for our purpose of a census in the American founding history accounts, somewhere along the line, it became essential for Americans to be counted so federal dollars could be accurately dished-out and other states or local governments didn’t get more than where you live because you didn’t get included in the official count.  There’s a fairly good chance that since it’s hard to get an accurate count of some areas where those who live there don’t have addresses or are concerned about government knowing that they are here – we’ll just make up a number (based on a formula for guessing) in order to have a big number to use when it comes time for waiting for that area’s fair share of federal handouts.  Since ACORN has gone out of business, it’s going to be a lot tougher to get these larger turn-outs of citizen counts, but the catchy television commercials should help in raising patriotic duty and accomplishing the results that we need to see.

Since this is an election year, I’m wondering if I’m supposed to now develop a television or radio commercial to have everyone else call me to “Thank Me” for bringing to Nevada more federal dollars?  I’ve seen a bunch of those types of commercials already this year…how many census forms did Senator Reid have to fill out?  Maybe, he got mailed a different d-form than I got?

As far as that goes, never-mind – you don’t have to call me and tell me “Thanks” for my role in making sure that Nevada and our local governments got all they’ve got coming in federal handouts.  I just did what any red-blooded citizen should do…make sure that our government has been served!

Besides it’s almost April 15th and I’ll get to do even more of my “fair share” to make those federal handouts possible.
(Although at the rate the majority party in Washington D.C. and Carson City and our exalted President are going, I'm not sure that the census forms are big enough for all government to get as much as they are going to need.)
