New Development In Transportation Tracking Study

By:  Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President

No sooner had we hit the "post" button on the piece written to announce the start of a study to find out where volunteers might travel, so they could be taxed for their vehicle miles traveled -- and we read this information from this morning's Las Vegas Sun.  We don't know for certain how the project might be rescued in order to establish the track record of how tracking vehicles can be used to improve the system for collecting taxes used to fix or build new roads (although the news article points to a hopeful source for funding -- the federal government).

It seems the local road taxing entities are thinking that they've paid enough to gather the substantiation which will justify the new taxing system to commence.  The state agency however seems to want to gather up some more money to study and fine-tune the system more...

Actually, having the federal government pour money into a project that connects up with a tax system based on watching citizens better, makes lots of sense and fits well with the mantra of big government growing bigger and getting paid for the effort of keeping track of citizens and where they travel.
