If Government Doesn’t Trust Us – Who’s Problem Is That?

By:  Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President

While scanning a social networking site that I frequent I came across this post , which indicates that our government doesn’t trust us citizens any more than we are overly impressed with the idea of trusting them.  If that is indeed the case (and from my experience in listening to the Nevada Senate Majority Leader and his fellow party members apologize in the last legislative session for not keeping their government-paid cronies fully supplied with Nevada taxpayer’ cash – I would tend to find it easy to believe)…who has the problem?

Actually, I think we as taxpayers and citizens are the ones with the problem.  The solution is taking back our government and replacing those who believe that government is an end to itself with representatives who recognize that they work for us – and not the other way around!  Nevada legislators in the last special session seemed to be rather upset with how much taxes the private sector wasn’t willing to pay.  The federal folks can’t understand why we’re not thrilled with their plans to take over our health care, our financial institutions, our auto companies and tax us for driving energy prices out of sight…

Unless we build on the trend of the early election cycle, replacing entrenched legislators who have lost touch with the proper role for government – we will reward the arrogance and misplaced consideration that government is supposed to be provided for in the manner for which they have become accustomed.  The mission of the 2010 election must be to send elected representatives to work for us, who believe that government’s boundaries (at all levels) should be retracted and constrained.
