I Guess It Is Not Our Money
By: Doug Busselman, Executive Vice President
When Nevada’s economy was booming the Nevada Legislature decided that they needed more taxpayer dollars to pay for the expansion of government we were told we needed because of our growth. With Nevada’s economy in the dumper, the majority party of the Nevada Legislature believes that they need more taxpayer dollars to pay for even more government – because if we don’t the state’s going to fall apart.
I was one of the recipients of the e-mail blitz that the Nevada News Bureau is writing about here . In part I was surprised to have received the “personalized” appeal to defend Nevada from the “extreme right-wing” element in our state who are only out to dismantle things, using the economic crisis as an excuse. From my experience and perspective the people who are trying to avoid further tax increases are really only trying to hang on to the money that they earn and need to maintain themselves.
Over the past several years it has become very clear that those who see government as an end to itself believe whatever government says it wants (because they seem to think that they are the only ones who have a legitimate reason to have a say) government should get. Beyond this most e-mail, I am firmly convinced, based on several occasions of Senator Horsford’s words and actions demonstrating the evidence, that Mr. Horsford believes we in the private sector work for government and owe whatever government claims to need.
His obsession with increasing Nevada’s tax burdens goes far beyond a civic responsibility that we’re supposed to have – it’s all about his need to redistribute to those purposes he and his government sector backers believe are more deserving. Hand it over or you will be vilified as right-wing extremist who only want to dismantle the state of Nevada!
Government living within the means of the taxpayers to support government should not be a consideration. More money – all of it – right now (do you think that the money you’ve earned belongs to you?)!
The impression these elected bandits seem to want to instill is that Nevada has a tax problem. A structural deficit where not enough sources are handing their money over…there’s a magic tax that if it could only be passed (by the 2/3 majority Horsford doesn’t have) all would be well! Business enterprises would flock to Nevada so they too could pour their money into our bottom-less pit of government. Jobs, especially those made possible by government’s largess, would be everywhere. The more taxes that can be extracted from the private sector – the better our government envisioned Utopia would be.
That’s if, those darn right-wing extremist don’t get in the way and keep taxes from being increased. Sign Up for the Senate Majority Leader’s e-mails – and you too will be kept apprised of the details of how we can tax ourselves to a better world…
